In a medieval world at war, the vampires who call themselves djinni protect the House of the Rose, and serve as the guardians of memory. But their memories have been altered to hide a deadly secret. Millennia ago, they exiled Inanna, Queen of Heaven, for trying to destroy the world, and named her the Cursed One. One Protector finds the Cursed One during a doomed Crusade, and discovers that her unaltered memories reveal a shattering truth. He rebels and vows to move heaven and earth to return her to her rightful place, whether or not it destroys the House of the Rose in civil war.
