Adrienne Rich was born in Baltimore in 1929. She graduated from Radcliffe College in 1951, the year her first book of poems was published. She has held two Guggenheim fellowships and has won various awards and prizes. She has given readings across the country and has taught at Swarthmore College, Columbia University, City College of the City University of New York, and Brandeis University. Since 1966 she has lived with her three sons in New York City.
