D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones is one of my favourite authors for how equally wise, knowledgeable and practical he is. Here he is at his very best when dealing with matters of church history (if you're looking for a comprehensive description of Puritans this isn't it) but still there is plenty of practical knowledge you can glean from Puritans, Great Awakening Preachers and English Church History. His gift is in making truths applicable to the church, to the pastor and to the Christian.
